JACKSON, Miss. – Authorities say police fatally shot a Mississippi man after they were called to a church because of a dispute over the firing of a pastor.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain says police were called to the Asia Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday.
Strain says 26-year-old Cacedrick White arrived with a shotgun and fired it once in the parking lot. That's when a Lexington police officer fired back multiple times, wounding White. He died at a hospital.
White is the son of a church deacon. Authorities say the deacons tried to fire the pastor, but the pastor was trying to get the entire congregation to take a vote Sunday.
Strain says no one else was injured or arrested.
Lexington is about 55 miles north of Jackson.
