Shooting at Texas house party kills 2, injures 22

DEVELOPING: Authorities in Texas say that two people have died and at least 22 others have been injured in a shooting at a house party in a suburb of Houston.

Texas' Harris County Sheriff's Office issued a statement early Sunday saying that two suspects are being sought after shots erupted between 11 p.m. Saturday and midnight Sunday in Cypress, northwest of Houston.  The statement says more than 100 people, mostly young adults, were at the house party and many fled in panic from the gunfire, with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

Authorities say one person died at the scene and another at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, one of five hospitals where the injured were taken.

Thomas Gilliland, a spokesman with the sheriff's office, told the Houston Chronicle in its online edition early Sunday that some of the wounded received shots to the foot, ankle and hip.  He also told the paper that others fleeing the home had injuries such as twisted ankles.

"It was a pretty chaotic scene," Gilliland told the Houston Chronicle. The paper reported that witnesses told deputies that some partygoers broke windows on the second floor of the house and jumped.

There was no immediate word on how many shots were fired or a possible motive. The Chronicle reported that the party had been advertised on Twitter as being an 18th birthday party and there did not appear to be any adult supervision.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
