Construction crane gets stuck above NYC street amid tornado watch

NEW YORK –  Authorities have closed West 57th Street between 6th and 7th avenues in Manhattan after a tower crane hoisting a load apparently got stuck about 20 floors up.

The fire department says it responded to 145 W. 57th Street after receiving a call at 11:30 a.m. Monday about "a crane malfunction."

CBS New York says it's the same location where a crane collapsed during Superstorm Sandy.

The Department of Buildings and Office of Emergency Management also responded to the scene.

The malfunction is causing additional concern because New York City is under a tornado watch.

The Department of Buildings had issued a reminder Monday to secure construction sites and buildings due to a forecast of high winds.
