A woman was arrested Monday in connection with the splattering of green paint at Washington's National Cathedral but it was not immediately clear if she was connected to two similar vandalism incidents in the nation's capital.
The unidentified woman was arrested in the area of the Cathedral and likely will face charges of destruction of property, the Associated Press reported.
Paint splashes were discovered earlier Monday on an organ in the Bethlehem Chapel inside the National Cathedral as well as in the Children's Chapel there. More paint was found on the statue of Joseph Henry outside the headquarters of the Smithsonian Institution.
The new incidents followed the discovery two days ago of green paint on the Lincoln Memorial.
U.S. Park Police are investigating whether the various vandalisms are related.
Cathedral spokesman Richard Weinberg said the paint was discovered there about 2pm ET and was still wet.
Linda St. Thomas, chief spokesperson for the Smithsonian Institution, confirmed green paint was discovered on the Joseph Henry statue Monday morning and said it would be removed within one day. Henry was the Smithsonian's first secretary.
On Friday, green paint was found on the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. Crews are still working to remove the paint.
